Recently I had a yearning for some chips.  I went to the health food store and started reading labels. Most of the ingredients included oils like soybean, canola, corn, cottonseed, sunflower, and safflower. These are all typically hydrogenated. That means they’re pumped with hydrogen gas, which can mess with the enzymes in your body (all in an effort to make them last on the shelves longer.) Many of them are also GMO. These are best to avoid. “Modern” vegetable oils, like Mazola, Crisco, and Wesson oil brands admit to using GMOs and hexane extraction in their processing. Like Canola oil, they go through the process of caustic refining, bleaching, and degumming–all of which involve high temperatures or chemicals of questionable safety. Canola Oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which easily become rancid and foul-smelling when subjected to oxygen and high temperatures. Due to this, it must be deodorized. The standard deodorization process removes a large portion of the omega-3 fatty acids by turning them into a trans-fatty acid. Research has established trans levels to be as high as 4.6 percent in commercial liquid oil. This is not listed on the label. I finally settled on some chips that were organic, expeller pressed, safflower and sunflower. Even though they are by no means healthy for you, they are not hydrogenated and the expelling process makes them more tolerable. However, I did find some non-GMO, organic, popcorn made from organic, Coconut Oil with nothing else added. I am sticking to this one!

At home, I use unrefined, expeller pressed, organic oils, with verifiable cold-pressed claims. If there are no verifiable claims on the label, you can contact their company and ask directly. GMOs and hexane extraction are prohibited in organic oil production, therefore, it is best to only purchase organic oils.

Extra Virgin Olive oil: Beware that there’s an olive oil fraud going on and some brands are mixed with unlabeled GMO oils (like soybean oil), so it’s important to find a brand you trust. Check out Papa Vince’s oil which is simply cold-pressed, from fresh green olives and has amazing health benefits. I like to use olive oil to make my own salad dressings.

Extra-Virgin Sesame Oil: It naturally contains vitamin E (an antioxidant,) vitamin B-6, zinc, magnesium, calcium, copper, and iron. Unrefined sesame oil is best used for low-heat sautéing. It works great as a condiment, but due to its strong flavor, it is best used sparingly. A naturally refined version is better for high-heat stir fry.

Nutiva Hemp Oil: This is one of my favorite oils, but it’s only good for cold applications like salad dressings, dips, and smoothies. Hemp oil contains more essential fatty acids than any other nut or seed oil, with the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the optimal ratio. This oil is delicate and should be kept in the fridge and used within 3 months. Other good oils for salad dressings include walnut oil and flaxseed oil.

Coconut Oil: This oil has a higher smoke point of 350 degrees. It can boost your energy, help you manage your weight, and even lower your cholesterol. It also contains something called MCTs. These Medium Chain Triglycerides are small enough to energize the mitochondria in your cells. It does have a distinct taste. You need to experiment to see whether the sweetness is something you like with a fried egg, for example.

Macadamia Nut Oil: This one isn’t as common, but I do like it when I can find it. You can cook with it to over 400 degrees, so it’s good for stir-frying and even deep-frying. It’s loaded with vitamin E and rich in antioxidants. It has a slightly nutty taste.

Avocado Oil: This might be my favorite. However, good quality, especially organic avocado oil, is not inexpensive. It has a smoke point of 510 degrees, so it’s safe to use in all your cooking. The smooth taste works with almost anything, from frying to just drizzling on your salad. Plus, it’s loaded with folate, which is like an anti-aging elixir.

Dairy is a confusing topic. I, for one, do not advocate dairy. However, in a study at Harvard, yogurt intake was associated with a 17% reduction in type 2 diabetes risk. The type of yogurt must NOT be sugar-sweetened or artificially sweetened yogurt, which will do more harm than good. It’s also vitally important, for the greatest benefits, to eat PLAIN, FULL-FAT yogurt that is ideally grass-fed and/or goat sources. This yogurt also contains high-quality protein and healthy fats, both of which help to control your blood sugar levels, appetite, and balance hormones. Although yogurt is credited in containing beneficial probiotics, in truth, these friendly bacteria die in the acid bath on the way to the gut. You’ll still need a Probiotic product, such as ours, that survives the acid bath by remaining in stasis until arriving to its destination. We all can, indeed, benefit in many ways due to improved digestive health. Having said that, I would encourage you to keep dairy at a minimum. You can make your plain, full-fat, yogurt taste better if you like things a little sweeter by adding a little stevia or monk fruit sweetener. You can add a handful of fresh or frozen berries and maybe some pumpkin seeds or nuts for a delicious and balanced lunch or snack that keeps blood sugar controlled and encourages fat loss.

Odors: Do you also use scented candles and air fresheners in your home? While using them, do you have trouble breathing? Do you get a headache or nausea? Wonder why? Your body is telling you there’s something wrong in the air you’re breathing. I am writing about this again because lately, I have been hearing that many of you are dealing with allergies more aggressively than before. You have learned about Chemtrails and what they are doing to us, but it is useful to address concerns you actually have control over. If you’re using common household cleaners, your indoor air is considerably more polluted than you realize. Cleaning products really do affect your health! Almost all commercial cleaning products contain the most deadly substances you’ll ever encounter and you’re inhaling them deeply every day, whether you use them or not. Consider the products you use for the kitchen and bathroom. These contain highly toxic chemicals. If it is toxic, we should not have it in our environment.  The industry could use non-toxic alternatives, but their costs would go up. (Vinegar and water is a good alternative as well as baking soda for odors or pots and pans).

The fact is, if it poisons us, it poisons our planet. Where do you suppose the toilet bowl cleaner goes after you flush the toilet—into our Earth, and eventually back into our bodies. BUT, if you don’t buy it, it may be discontinued! Almost all of us are overloaded with toxins.  Household chemicals are linked to various diseases. Europe has far more restrictions than the US. In the US, companies are not legally obligated to label the toxic ingredients they put in cleaning products. As the number of studies about chemical risks reach into the thousands, the toll of diseases they are suspected of causing is also mounting.

Do you have unexplained allergies? Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is also called environmental illness or “sick building syndrome.”  Whatever name you choose, they apply to the unexplained chronic symptoms and conditions that mainstream medicine cannot explain or repair. When the toxic load overwhelms your immune system, you can experience things like:

    •    Fatigue (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)
    •    Joint pain (Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
    •    Dizziness (Vertigo)
    •    Headaches (Migraines)
    •    Inflammation of the skin (Acne, Rosacea, Psoriasis)
    •    Nausea, bloating, gas (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
    •    Chest pain, changes in heart rhythm
    •    Nasal/lung congestion, sneezing, itchy red eyes, sore throat
    •    Depression and anxiety
    •    Confusion, trouble concentrating, memory problems, mood changes
    •    And many other symptoms.

To manage your MCS, you must get rid of the triggers.
You may need to eliminate:

    •    Scented products (there are thousands of them around you)
    •    Tobacco smoke
    •    Auto exhaust (hydrocarbons)
    •    Pesticides and insecticides
    •    Herbicides (in GMO foods)
    •    Plastics (the “new” car smell)
    •    Synthetic fabrics
    •    Petroleum products
    •    Paint fumes
    •    New carpets or furniture
    •    Chlorine
    •    Poor Ventilation and countless others.

Your immune system can get confused with all these irritants and produce antigens that, in the attempt to attack the problem, attack other tissues – unable to differentiate “self” from “non-self!” Regardless of the cause, many have severe symptoms and are disabled as a result. You may be tempted to think this is all a load of hooey, but we know for certain that un-natural man-made chemical products are not good for us or the entire planet. The more natural things we surround ourselves with, the better for everyone! {Replace furniture polish, shoe, and leather polish, air fresheners, and body deodorants with Whisper of Silk. Replace toxic tooth products with Glacial Blue. Replace chemically-laden skin products with Sateen, The Energizing Life Force Gel or Whisper of Silk.}

I wanted to write an article about Lyme’s disease, but do not have the room to do it justice. However, I can refer you to a book I came across by a Dr. Rawls that looks helpful. It tells of his personal battle with Lyme Disease and what brought him back to health. I haven’t read it, but the article I wanted to share is based on his discoveries. The book is called, “Unlocking Lyme,”  by William Rawls MD.
